As many of you know, I’ve been practicing yoga for the past few months. I am still very much a beginner, and I honestly haven’t been improving all that much. I typically average two or three days of yoga per week- sometimes more, sometimes way less.
While I have not made much visible progress, I have noticed a new awareness about myself during yoga. During a yoga workout, I have noticed myself being forced to use muscles that I truly was not even aware of. I use muscles that I am generally not aware of in normal workouts, such as running or weight-lifting.
I have also noticed that holding the poses causes me to work muscles more than they may normally be worked. I must focus on tightening every little muscle in my leg when I am in balancing table. I also must constantly focus on keeping my core engaged and abs tight to maintain proper form.
I have yet to have seen any physical results from practicing, but I can tell you this- yoga has made me more aware of my body than I have ever been.
